AOC G2590FX Review

Let’s dive right into what you’re looking for, which is the AOC G2590FX review.

Bottom Line

4.5/5

The AOC G2590FX is a 1080p 144Hz 1ms gaming monitor that supports both FreeSync and G-SYNC (Compatible) and offers excellent value for the price!

There are numerous 24″-25″ 1080p 144Hz 1ms gaming models available which might make choosing the right one a bit overwhelming.

The AOC G2590FX, however, plays it safe and gives you everything you need for competitive gaming at the right price.

You get AMD FreeSync as well as G-SYNC Compatibility with a wide dynamic range, low input lag, quick response time, and a high refresh rate.

Image Quality

The AOC G2590FX 144Hz gaming monitor is based on a newer 24.5″ TN panel made by AU Optronics, as opposed to the older 23.6″-24″ TN models.

Besides getting a slightly bigger screen, you get a higher peak brightness of 400-nits as well as slightly better viewing angles and color performance.

Now, the colors are still not as good as they are on IPS or VA panel displays, but they are noticeably richer in comparison to the older TN panels.

The AOC G2590FX TN monitor covers 96% of the sRGB color space and supports 8-bit color depth via dithering (6-bit + FRC).

The 170°/160° viewing angles still cause the image to shift in color, contrast, and brightness when you look at the screen from skewed angles, but for gamers, this isn’t particularly concerning anyway.

With Full HD resolution, you get a decent pixel density with crisp details, sharp text, and a fair amount of screen real estate. What’s more, it makes reaching 144FPS (Frames Per Second) significantly easier on your PC rig than WQHD.

Performance

Moving on to the performance, the AOC G2590FX input lag is impressively low and amounts to only ~4ms. So, even professional gamers won’t be able to notice any delays.

The response time speed of 1ms is another aspect hardcore gamers will appreciate. In fast-paced games such as first-person shooters and racing games, there’s minimal motion blur and ghosting behind fast-moving objects.

Add all that to the monitor’s 144Hz refresh rate, and you get everything you need for a responsive and enjoyable gaming experience.

Finally, the AOC G2590FX 1080p display doesn’t use PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) to regulate brightness meaning that it’s flicker-free. If you are sensitive to screen flicker, you have nothing to worry about.

Features

Using the joystick placed at the back of the monitor, you can easily navigate through the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu and adjustments.

Pressing the joystick up when not in the menu allows you to swap input sources. Pressing it down places a red ‘Dial Point’ fixed crosshair while pressing it to left opens the ‘Game Mode’ presets (FPS, Racing, RTS, and three customizable Gamer profiles).

Other gaming features include AOC Shadow Control and Game Color, which allow you to alter gamma and color saturation respectively to make certain objects in video games more visible or vibrant.

You will also find ‘Low Input Lag,’ which further decreases input lag by bypassing certain image processing. Lastly, there are four Overdrive options for the response time speed: Off, Weak, Medium, and Strong.

If you have an Adaptive-Sync compatible graphics card by AMD or NVIDIA (GTX 10-series, RTX 20-series, or newer), you can enable variable refresh rate which will allow the AOC G2590FX to change its refresh rate dynamically.

In other words, the frame rate between the GPU and the refresh rate of the display will be synchronized, thus removing screen tearing and stuttering but without introducing input lag like VSYNC does.

The AOC G2590FX variable refresh rate range is 30-144Hz/FPS which is surprisingly good as on most FreeSync gaming monitors, the VRR range is usually 40-144Hz or 48-144Hz.

Moreover, when your FPS dips below 30, the display will run LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) which multiplies the refresh rate according to the frame rate in order to minimize screen stutter until your FPS recovers.

Design & Connectivity

The design of the AOC G2590FX monitor is clearly aimed at gamers with its red accents, which, thankfully, aren’t too aggressive.

Alas, the stand is tilt-only (-3.5°/21.5°), but you can mount the screen on a third-party stand via the 100x100mm VESA pattern. Further, the design has ultra-thin matte-black bezels and a cable management bracket.

Connectivity options include DisplayPort 1.2, two HDMI 1.4 ports, VGA, and a headphone jack. FreeSync works over both DP and HDMI up to 144Hz, whereas G-SYNC works over DisplayPort only.

Price & Similar Monitors

You can also find the AOC G2590PX model, which is the same monitor but with a fully ergonomic stand, built-in speakers, and a quad-USB 3.0 hub for $30 extra.

Alternatively, depending on your region, you might want to take a look at the Acer KG251QF and the HP Omen 25 – both of which are based on the same panel as the G2590FX/PX.

However, we recommend getting the LG 24GN650 instead for the same price. It’s just as fast, but has an IPS panel with much better colors and wider viewing angles.

Conclusion

While the AOC G2590FX is an excellent monitor for competitive gaming, there are much better alternatives available at this price range.
